Kubrick’s inaugural Cloud Engineering cohort begin their first client engagements.

After 15 weeks of intensive training, Kubrick’s first cohort of Cloud Engineers have completed their core programme and have begun onboarding and driving client projects. Throughout their time in the Kubrick Training Lab, the cohort went from strength to strength when mastering new concepts and technologies, seeing all 25 members pass the rigorous testing and project work with flying colours. Kubrick’s Head of Next-Generation Technology, Lawrence Freeman, reflects on the challenges but ultimate resounding success of the first program:

“Whenever we introduce a new practice into our Labs, there is an inevitable degree of uncertainty in all our surrounding processes; who will be the best candidates to take on the challenge and train with us? What is the right level of skill and ability which the consultants must arrive with and leave with to succeed on client projects, and which tools and technologies will best match our clients’ needs? Whilst we were confident in our research to answer all of these questions and curate our training program, it is nonetheless a fantastic achievement for all those involved, and especially Martin Palmer, Head of Cloud Engineering and the mastermind behind the program, to see the consultants thrive in training and impress our clients at the very first throw of the dice. This first group of Cloud Engineers are a fantastic collection of the future leaders in the field, and I look forward to following their journeys over the next couple of years and beyond.”

The cohort are embarking on projects in a notably varied portfolio of industries, including Telecoms and Media, Travel, Finance, Automotive, Retail, and Pharmaceutical, a strong indication of the demand to embrace cloud technology for businesses across sectors today. Several of the Cloud Engineers have been onboarded onto client projects as part of Kubrick’s specialist blended squads – teams of junior consultants who are led by our experienced Kubrick Advanced consultants for project delivery which harnesses more senior commercial and technical expertise while alleviating pressure on managerial bandwidth. These squads are also blending capability, as our Cloud Engineers are joined by fellow consultants from across our Data Engineering, Data Management, and Data Product practices in order to deliver cloud solutions which support and accelerate wider data and technology transformation goals.

Shijo Varghese is a Cloud Engineer working in a blended squad within financial services. He shares his experiences in the Training Lab and the transition to his client project after his first week on site:

“The training was incredibly challenging, but the agile method of working is a fun yet effective tool for learning as it enabled knowledge sharing. After completing the most intense 15 weeks of my life and picking up a plethora of technical skills, I knew that I had the fortitude to combat any challenges that awaited me on client-site. Once my client engagement was finalised, my trainer allowed me to adapt my training to work with the tools that would deliver maximum value to my client, including using my final project to simulate the type of project I would be working on in order to grow my confidence in the skill stack. As we have a Kubrick Advanced member leading my team, we also have their guidance to help us make our transition from training to our client placement as smooth as possible.

“The project I will be working on is the migration of data form an on-premises SQL server to a Data Warehouse in Azure, using Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps, and Octopus as the main tools for the migration. We will fasciculate dissuasions on how to better consume the data to make more impact within the business and smoother injection of the data. Knowing the impact that these solutions have bring and the value I can bring to businesses as a Cloud Engineer, I feel exhilarated to be at the beginning of my career!”
