During the holy month of Ramadan, we held an event called The Big Fast in our office to show solidarity with our Muslim colleagues who are fasting, and to give our non-Muslim colleagues the opportunity to experience what Ramadan is like mentally and physically for one day.

Both Muslim and non-Muslim members of Kubrick came together to participate in a day-long fast from food and drink. It was an opportunity for our colleagues to learn from one another, create community and to gain a greater understanding of the traditions and practices of Ramadan.

Abdus Khan who started The Big Fast at Kubrick 4 years ago said, “It fills me with immense pride to see how many people participated and joined in with the Ramadan fast challenge this year. The event has always been an exceptional opportunity to connect with colleagues, friends and members of various diverse communities and foster the empathy and unity Islam teaches us all about. Within 4 years we have seen the community and network grow massively and I am only excited how much more we can do moving forward!”

Dana James-Edwards our Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, who also participated in the fast said, “I look forward to The Big Fast every year, especially because it’s an event that is driven by the Muslim community at Kubrick. A key part of inclusion is empathy and fasting for a day always gives me and other non-Muslims at Kubrick who participate, perspective on what our Muslim colleagues experience during Ramadan and a renewed respect for their commitment to their faith.”

A huge thank you to all members of the Muslim community at Kubrick who shared their culture and religion with us. Ramadan Mubarak to all!
