Movember 2023

In this month’s episode of Diversifying Data, we celebrate and recognize the month of Movember. The purpose of Movember is to raise awareness around men's health issues, with a particular focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention.

During this podcast, Ellen Hitchcock, Candidate Attraction & Engagement Associate at Kubrick, speaks candidly with Bailey Harrison, a Kubrick Alumni member, about his testicular cancer diagnosis and how catching diseases such as testicular cancer early is critical. Yet, stigma and lack of awareness can create barriers to screening and treatment.

Together, Bailey and Ellen touch upon how men are less likely to get themselves checked if they feel something might not be right or talk openly about their concerns or struggles and how cultural stereotypes around masculinity and stigma surrounding mental illness for men can result in men not seeking help or support.

Bailey also speaks about the support he received, how his diagnosis impacted his mental health, and the steps we can all take to support anyone who has received a similar diagnosis.

Lastly, Bailey offers useful advice to men who may have been diagnosed with testicular cancer or are worried they may be presenting symptoms.

Testicular cancer is the #1 cancer among young men, yet 62% of those who are most at risk don’t know how to check themselves. By starting open conversations and checking in on one another, it can start to break this cycle.

A huge thank you to Bailey for participating in this episode and for bravely sharing his personal experience.
