Kubrick$100m+ a year maintenance savings

The challenge

JetBlue engaged Kubrick to reduce out-of-service events as a result of maintenance issues, helping maximize the ability to fulfil a demanding timetable of scheduled services, driving cost efficiencies and increasing revenue by getting more customers to their destinations on time.

The solution

Kubrick created a Digital Twin using Graph Technology and Generative AI, expediting the process of defect diagnosis and resolution while anticipating and optimizing maintenance work that minimized the risk of out-of-service events. To do this we:

- Implemented Medallion Architecture and Unity Catalog with Databricks to combine data from across siloed sources, including issue and defect logs, maintenance manuals, live aircraft data, and supply and inventory data.

- Created a 3-part graph database with Neo4j to reveal current and historical relationships between defects, resolutions, frequency of out-of-service events, and parts inventory.

- Built Graph Data Science models to enable predictive analytics on common defects and their resolutions.

- Integrated with a user-friendly Generative AI chatbot to enable maintenance workers to source accurate resolutions instantly.

- Provided a dashboard suite to enable enhanced reporting and compliance on fleet status.

The results

Kubrick's work delivered a huge predicted reduction in planes being kept out of service due to maintenance issues and significantly improved issue resolution, anticipated to drive more than $100m in annual savings. With more planes in the the sky, JetBlue can maximize its fleet's capabilities, fly more customers to their destinations, reduce costs and drive revenue growth.
