The challenge

We were challenged to streamline productionization of cutting-edge reporting to help AON Human Capital Solutions provide their clients with powerful, trustworthy insights into sales teams’ performance and recommend effective methods of incentivization.

AON asked us to focus on:

  1. Reducing reliance on manual data processes resulting in inconsistent analysis across team members and hampering the ability to scale data use.
  2. Freeing up analysts’ time and effort enabling them to undertake value-add advisory work
  3. Improving the capability to work with complex data sources and analytics, increasing their ability to remain competitive with their solutions in the short, mid and long-term.

The solution

Harnessing the power of Databricks with AWS and PowerBI, we created a centralized solution to provide enhanced insights into their client data, including:

  • Automated ingestion of data into cloud storage via SFTP
  • Development of Databricks Spark pipelines to load data into Snowflake, operating on a daily refresh via Databricks Workflows
  • Adaptable Power BI reports covering analytics on pay for performance, account sales and market benchmarking

The results

The all-in-one solution has enabled a significant increase in revenue-driving advisory work, creating new opportunities such as a modern subscription-based model for clients. Overall we delivered a 33x+ reduction in reporting run time compared to previous processes, delivered five high utility products covering differing reporting requirements. All in a six-month timeframe.
