Kubrick are named in the shortlist for best Graduate Employer by Women in Tech.

Women in Tech have announced the shortlist for their annual employer awards, recognising the organisations across the UK who are committed to supporting and advancing the careers of their female-identifying staff members working in technology roles. Kubrick’s appearance in the category for Best Graduate Employer follows their recent debut in the 2021 Times 100 Top Graduate Employers as the consultancy Fellow finalists in the category include Vantage Point Global, mkodo, and Graphcore.

Behind Kubrick’s mission to overcome the digital skills emergency by creating its own workforce of trained technology professionals is a recognition of the power of diversity and inclusion to do so. They accept applicants from all degree disciplines, including the arts and business, in order to bring diversity of thought in their approach to technology challenges, which allows for a wider pool of gender diversity given the ongoing imbalance in STEM subjects which begins earlier in the traditional education system. Additionally, Kubrick provide a salary from Day 1 of training to drive inclusivity in their programmes, whereas other reskilling opportunities in the industry require a fee or offer free training without the promise of a salary until a role is available. With over 1,000 consultants trained and an increased schedule of training programmes planned for the coming years, Kubrick are rapidly becoming the employer of choice for female graduates looking to enter the data and technology industry.

Reflecting on the shortlist, Kubrick HR Director Linda MacDonald said, “Our commitment to closing the gender divide in technology requires more than simply holding ourselves accountable to hiring 40% female and non-binary consultants – it is about creating an environment which encourages female graduates and junior professionals to join us with a sense of confidence that they will succeed. We’ve created a programme and a system which we truly believe will give graduates the best opportunity to accelerate their career, and so I’m thrilled to see our mission reflected in this recognition as a Finalist for Women in Tech’s Best Graduate Employer. In an industry which continues to maintain barriers to entry for women, Kubrick’s offering of paid training with industry experts and a guaranteed pathway into today’s leading organisations is more important than ever.”

Kubrick Data Product consultant Sonal Sethi shared her experience as a female graduate looking around in today’s employment market. “I had always wanted to pursue a career in data and technology however I hadn’t been given the opportunity to do so prior to Kubrick”, she said. “Any graduate roles or further education opportunities I encountered had the prerequisite of experience in the field, and that’s something I didn’t have. Being passionate about continuous learning, I had already taught myself some coding skills in both Python and Swift, but it was not enough for employers. Even as early as high school, data simply wasn’t a career pathway that was advertised or encouraged to young people, in particular females. That’s something that was so endearing about Kubrick to me, they really were diversifying the data industry and encouraging those without experience to get involved. Data was exciting to me because of its magnitude and versatility across all industries and central role in key business decisions.”
