I came across Kubrick, which seemed to be the ideal fit for me. I could facilitate a career change into a data- focused role without having to worry about my finances. The fact I could pursue what I wanted and be paid whilst doing so was mind-blowing!

Before joining Kubrick, I was studying Accounting and Finance at the University of Bath. I was Treasurer for the Bath Entrepreneurs society, where I was proud to coordinate the fundraising of £15,000 to support projects which promoted Bath as a global entrepreneurial student hub, such as hosting an online 24-hour hackathon and implementing a start-up accelerator for Bath students. Our efforts were recognised at the National Societies and Volunteering Awards as we won the 2021 Development Award.

In my previous role at a major British technology company, I learned how impactful the use of data can be within a business. My team was often busy with requests from engineers for cost information on specific parts and my curiosity to automate these tasks and present the data in a visually engaging format led me to the world of data. I became fascinated with the application of big data and communicated the benefits of implementing a data science project within my team. I initiated a project to collaborate with our data engineers to clean and pool our data into Tableau dashboards, learning SQL in the process. This really ignited my passion and I enjoyed engaging with multiple stakeholders to create a concise data pool capable of querying crucial information to generate insights. Ultimately seeing the benefits of data scientists as business partners helped me realise that I wanted to advance my knowledge through the Kubrick training programme.

I wanted to switch career paths into a more data-focused role, and I began applying to do a masters. Coming from an underprivileged family, I was desperately trying to obtain as many scholarships as possible knowing the financial burden of a being a postgraduate. It was then that I came across Kubrick, which seemed to be the ideal fit for me. I could facilitate a career change into a data-focused role without having to worry about my finances. The fact I could pursue what I wanted and be paid whilst doing so was mind-blowing! Kubrick had an excellent client list with companies I would have been over the moon to work at had I completed a masters. I thought Kubrick was a brilliant way for me to gain experience and kick-start my career. In addition to that, training with 25 peers that were close to my age sounded like great fun and gave me the bonus of automatically building up a great professional network for my future.

During the training, you are constantly supported and guided to take turns leading your scrum team in mini projects and challenges such as deploying an automated continuous integration/continuous delivery pipeline. This enhances your leadership, communication, and team management skills, allowing you to efficiently deliver a project in a timely manner.

As well as technical training, Kubrick prepares you from a professional standpoint. The client meeting sessions significantly strengthened my interview skills and gave me the confidence to talk to clients about the various projects I have been involved in since joining Kubrick. The project I’m proudest of so far is successfully fully automating a CI/CD pipeline (using YAML) with end-to-end auditing and tests supported by a managed backlog which was able to successfully deploy over 60 production changes to the cloud within an 80-minute window.

I would recommend Kubrick to others as it is an incredible learning opportunity! You are trained in cutting-edge technology that enables you to have a material impact on the growth of organisations and industries across the next decade. If you are looking to enter the world of data and want to receive tailored training for beginners, which is taught by experts in the field, and be paid for the privilege, then Kubrick is the right place for you.

If you are considering joining Kubrick, then I’d say go for it. They have an amazing set of clients, the training will set you up well for life on site, and it’s a great way to advance your career.
