My name is Jade Brewer and I joined in the Data Engineering cohort in October 2021 having studied mathematics at the University of York.

Through my degree I knew I wanted to do something maths related and had always wanted to get into coding but at the time of graduating I did not have this skill set yet. Then when I came across Kubrick I thought this is perfect as the training scheme looked impressive and exactly what I needed to jump start my career into the world of data and develop key coding skills I wanted to achieve.

The training schedule was very robust and included a number of topics such as Data wrangling techniques, detailed knowledge of platforms and infrastructure, visualisation tools such as Tableau and the teaching of coding languages Python and SQL from scratch. I joined Kubrick during COVID so my training was hosted all online with lecture and seminar styled learning. Despite this it was still really interactive with running small scrum teams of which I would communicate to daily and work towards sprints of group projects / presentations together. We also had the opportunity to visit the Kubrick Offices in London where we would organise as a group to attend to socialise so I did not feel like my experience training virtually was impacted negatively despite being online and still managed to make a bunch of friends on the way!

I am currently on client site within the finance industry and currently sit within the corporate side within the Data Science team. I have been involved in a number of tasks from developing applications, maintaining Tableau dashboards, performing ADHOC requests building my own python code for the team whenever they need some data wrangling or data insights. Primarily I am now working more in the Data Science field using NLP with python to use and adapt pretrained models to fit our use-cases. The project I am currently working on is Dynamic Rule Recommendation whereby for every new dataset that is onboarded to the system, we would like to automatically recommend rules that a custodian would apply to their dataset. This is a very exciting project that has future to be productionised and will greatly aid my client in encouraging the onboarding of new datasets, reducing time taken to onboard rules and aid technical help to those who may not have as much knowledge on what rules they would want to be applied.

Kubrick was perfect for me in terms of training as it supplied everything that I needed and wanted! Specifically, the Python training was immensely helpful as I was taught from scratch with no prior python knowledge and now, I use it every day when I am working and feel confident in my abilities to code and get enjoyment from doing so! Python is such an important coding language to use as you really can do almost everything with it and have managed to use it in every task I’ve been given while on client site – even something that you can do manually on excel you can do 5 times faster on python and it has encouraged my efficiency mindset within my own projects and influenced others in the team to aid them with tasks.

I would definitely recommend Kubrick to others! Kubrick for me has been such a great experience; I was able to learn how to code from scratch, be educated on the world of data and corporate working life expanding my domain knowledge, use technical tools I had not previously been exposed to and land a placement at a very successful company who are aiding my journey into Data Science.
