The Cloud Engineering training certainly gave me a complete overview of the main aspects and tools within the Cloud engineering space and at the same time helped me develop a DevOps mindset and build languages such as Python and SQL. The training has provided the foundation for me to build upon my skills so I can be an effective engineer both in the technical aspect and from a soft skills perspective such as stakeholder management.

Since completing my training in September 2021, I have been assisting in the deployment of a novel High Performance Computing platform based on an on-premise cloud powered by Open stack. I am also responsible for conducting show and tell sessions where I introduce solutions that the team has built into the wider team across the globe, which Kubrick’s training prepared me for s we routinely carried out similar show and tell sessions within our cohort.

Recently, I also started designing CI/CD pipelines to deploy versioned Docker images through GitHub Actions onto GitHub’s container registry and have been able to apply principles I learned during training to this current project. Some of the principles include triggers on either push or pull requests and manual triggers.

In terms of tools used most frequently on site, these include Terraform, Nomad, Consul, Vault and Ansible, and we have also recently deployed a new monitoring stack using Prometheus, Grafana, Alert manager and Node exporter.

I would recommend Kubrick's Cloud Engineering programme to anyone that is curious and enjoys breaking down complex problems into smaller problems. It would also suit anyone that enjoys presenting problems back to an audience and likes the idea of working alongside others to find effective solutions.
